1. The WhatsApp Groups have been created for residents to stay in contact with each other about things pertaining to Somerset Park in general. The intention is to create a positive and pleasant experience for all members. Please remember that this group is not the platform for expressing personal opinion, unless asked to provide feedback. We are all here to help each other and keep each other informed, not vent and undermine each other.
  2. For this form of communication to stay effective and positive for all members, the rules below must be adhered to by everyone.
  3. The Somerset Park Matter Groups are intended as a convenient way to distribute information to residents quickly and efficiently and for residents to communicate easily with each other regarding Somerset Park Matters. Always keep to the purpose of the group, don’t share irrelevant messages about other topics.
  4. Don’t spam the group. If you would like a group to share memes, adverts or deals with then set one up for that exact purpose and invite others to join.
  5. Don’t be offended if others leave.
  6. Do politely excuse yourself before you leave a group.
  7. Post your message in one single chunk of text, don’t post every word or sentence in a new message.
  8. Try not to have long one-on-one conversations in the group. Switch to private messages.
  9. Do not post in any group between 22h00 and 07h00 unless it is an emergency.
  10. If someone asks a question and you don’t know the answer don’t respond with “I don’t know”. Just wait for someone who knows the answer to reply.
  11. Please don’t send in a hundred “thank you” messages. If you feel gratitude towards someone – tell them in a private message.
  12. If someone asks a question of a personal nature (like asking for advice) don’t respond if someone else has already answered, or else respond to the person directly in a private message.
  13. The group is not a political platform. No arguing, no heated opinions, no fear-mongering, no hyped-up drama.
  14. No fake news. Check your sources before you share.
  15. Never EVER use a group to berate someone else or air grievances. If you have an issue address it one on one with the relevant person.
  16. Don’t send data-insensitive messages. No-one wants their last 3GB used up on uninvited memes.
  17. Hit “Mute” on your WhatsApp group (unless you are part of an emergency rescue group). This is a sanity saver. You will still receive all the messages, but your phone won’t buzz or make a noise for every one of them.
  18. In the event that there is a breach of any of the rules, the group administrator reserves the right to remove the transgressor from the group.
  19. By participating in this WhatsApp Group, you agree to these group rules.
  20. Participation is not obligatory and if you join, you have the option of leaving. We would hope that all participants can see the usefulness of the group and will cooperate accordingly.
  21. Respect everyone’s privacy – being part of this group requires mutual trust.
  22. Due to circumstances and incidents, these rules may be amended and changed from time to time. Group members will be advised of these changes. By remaining on the group, you will be considered as having read, understood and agreeing to these changes.
